I have a Morningstar MC6 Pro connected to Midihub In/A. The Morningstar has a number of banks where switching to the bank will send CC32 (sub bank change) and a PC on MIDI channels 1 and 2 (a total of four messages being sent)
Stored in Preset 1 on Midihub, I have a simple setup, From Midi A to Midi A; From Midi A to Midi B. When the Midihub starts up, In/A light is on
The first few times I press bank change on the MC6, the messages get passed through to the devices on the other end. The In/A light is solid, and the Out/A and Out/B lights flicker briefly. However, if I rapidly change the bank (either clicking rapidly or holding down the bank select buttons), eventually the Midihub stops sending the messages, and all eight lights on the Midihub are on and stay on solidly. I can’t seem to get the Midihub out of this state without power cycling it.
If I replace the Midihub with a simple midi splitter, eg a Midi Solutions Quadra Thru, the messages all get sent to the destinations correctly
It could be that this triggers preset changes on Midihub itself. Please check whether preset changes on receiving Program Change is disabled in Device → Settings… menu. (Input Port should be set to Disabled).
If this is already disabled, let me know.
Yep! This seemed to be the issue:
I was sending CC and PC messages to MIDI channel 1, intended for a device on the other side of the Midihub, but the midihub itself was listening on In/A and MIDI channel 1 for its own instructions. Any one of the following seemed to fix the issue I was seeing:
- Disable Midihub Program Change input port (Device menu → Settings… → Input Port disabled)
- Set Midihub input port to a different physical input ( Device menu → Settings… → Input Port { not the same as the device generating the CC/PC messages, eg. Input B }
- Set Midihub to listen to a different MIDI channel, e.g. 16 instead of 1 (again, Device → Settings)
Thanks!
FWIW, the setting that seemed to make most sense for my purposes was to set the Midihub to a different MIDI channel. I still want to be able to change presets on the Midihub via the footswitch.
