Sync Delay pipes not working?

Hello, I’ve been trying to add a few MS of delay to some MIDI notes in my setup, so I can tighten up the timing of when recording is triggered on my Octatrack. I tried to use the Sync Delay MS pipe but it doesn’t seem to be working at all, if I set it to 1 second events are clearly coming through with no extra delay. Seems to be the same with the non-MS Sync Delay, and the standard Delay pipe too though I haven’t tested thoroughly yet.

Known bug? Something messed up with my device? Or something I’m not understanding about how this is supposed to work? I’m pretty sure I’ve utilised some delay in the past and could tell for sure that it was working. No idea why it’s not working now. I tested with a clean patch just routing keyboard notes to a sampler and it’s definitely not delaying anything.

Thanks.

Hey @GurtTractor

Just tested Sync Delay Ms using this: SyncDelay_ms_Test.mhp
Works as described; delaying realtime MIDI events by the set amount of milliseconds.

When I want to delay Note On/ Note Off by some fixed ms, I tend to adapt this:
Delay Note on and Note Off by 500ms_fixed (original).mhp from here
@Giedrius’s use of parallel pipelines respects the Note Length nicely

Sync Delay works with the Transport events like Clock, Start, Stop, Continue, so the time sync itself is delayed. For delaying Note On & Note Off - use the Delay pipe with 100% Wet, 100% Feedback and 1 Repetition settings, so the original note does not sound, only the delayed one. For tiny delays, use the preset above, linked by @resonotter.

One way to use the Sync Delay is to record your Note events into a track on a sequencer, and then play that back, while feeding a delayed sync to the sequencer, so its timings are slightly shifted. Sync Delay allows for more precise delay amount.

Thanks. The normal Delay pipe does work, just a bit fiddly to set up if someone’s just wanting a simple ms delay.

I don’t really understand why the Sync Delay pipes can’t work with notes? I think this needs to be better explained in the help text for the pipes, if it’s only for transport events it should say that, “realtime MIDI events” is highly ambiguous.

If I needed to delay CCs is there some way of doing that?

Realtime MIDI events is a MIDI standard class of events, but you’re right, we should list them out.

You can use Transform pipe to convert the CCs to Note On events and get them delayed, then back to CCs after the Delay.
