Hi, I am running raspbian buster on raspberry pi 4 8gb and my pisound v1.1 is not recognized. I have installed the pisound software. I can see from the led light that the pisound is at least clipping when I turn up the gain on an instrument input through the 1/4" jack.

Hey,
I recently got the 8gb model and I don’t think it is as well supported yet as the 2 and 4 gb models. Check the kernel settings and make sure you’re not using the realtime kernel… I think the other option is the native kernel?
Another thing to check is the sample rate - the Pisound needs to be set at 48k or 96k to work properly. Hope this helps.
Could you please post the output of dmesg after the system is done booting up?
Some common reasons for Pisound not being recognized are:

The boards are not making good enough contact, so you can try slightly squeezing them together, or mounting Pisound without the standoffs for the time being.

The power supply is not powerful enough (but I don’t think we’ve seen this issue with USB-C power supplies yet), could you let us know what is the voltage and current rating of your power supply?

Some misconfiguration in
/boot/config.txt, but if it’s a fresh install, it’s unlikely.
Thank you for the quick replies. I should also say that I have been using the raspberry pi as somewhat of a laptop for a few months and have the pijuice hat on the raspberry pi,which is controlling power and charging a battery. To make this work the pisound is connected to the pijuice hat via jumper wires to all 40 pins. Pijuice pinout shows it using just the 3.3v and 5v at the top of the header and both I2c pins. I’m using Canakit’s 3.5A power supply designed for raspberry 4. Here is the dmesg output:

I don’t see attempt to load the Pisound driver, this should be triggered via the I²C HAT EEPROM pins. Maybe the indirect connection interferes with that. Nevertheless, you can try to manually load the Pisound driver, place this at the bottom of /boot/config.txt
dtoverlay=pisound
and reboot the system.
Let us know how it goes. If that doesn’t help, please try connecting the Pisound directly. And if that doesn’t help, please post the entire contents of your /boot/config.txt here.

Ok, normally just having the hat on top would load the driver automatically, in the configuration you’re using, you’ll just have to remember the config change whenever flashing SD cards.
