Pisound detected, but fails with error -22

Hi,

I’ve received my Pisound today, along with the case and a Midihub, and eagerly put everything together just to find upon first startup that the Pisound isn’t detected (or, to be more precise, it seems to be detected but fails to initialise).

My setup is as follows:
Pisound Rev 2020 v1.1
Raspberry Pi 3B
Official Raspberry Pi PSU for the 3B (5V 2.5A)
Patchbox OS - I also ran apt update and upgrade just to be sure.

I’ve already tried all the steps mentioned in similar posts, but to no avail:

  • Re-seating the GPIO pins (btw. I noticed the pins seem to be too short when using the spacers, so I’ve also tried it without them in place)
  • Updating and upgrading Patchbox OS, even going as far as upgrading the Pi firmware
  • Trying to flash the firmware via the Blokas-flavour avrdude, all I’m getting is:

    (Btw., I’m only getting the ‘Directory nonexistent’ errors when trying this via ssh, however avrdude’s output is the same when directly logging into the Pi)
  • I’ve also tried running sudo dtoverlay pisound. This returns: * Failed to apply overlay '0_pisound' (kernel). Running avrdude afterwards results in the same output as above.

I really hope there is a way to resolve this. Meanwhile, I’ll have to make do with the superb Midihub (:

I have also tried this now with a second Raspberry Pi (3B+) of which I know for sure all of the GPIO pins are working. Same result there. Additionally, I checked all of the GPIO pins of the 3B model mentioned in my OP, and they all seem to work fine. I also tried it with a fresh install of Patchbox OS on both Pis, yet still no luck.

So I suppose the fault is with the Pisound itself. Or am I missing something obvious?

Hey, thank you for going so far with your troubleshooting. It looks like Pisound is not responding via the SPI bus, it may be a hardware fault. In that case, you should return it to us and we’ll send you another unit. I’ll PM you to arrange this.
