Pisound not working: pisound: Reading card info failed: -22

Hi everyone! Today all of a sudden I am having issues with my pisound hat not initializing; it appears as if it sees it but fails to load.

It was working fine yesterday running MODEP on my raspberry pi 3B, testing loop patches with the lv2 sooperlooper, which worked very smoothly with midi control. Today, I was switching it over to a microsd with patchbox-os I had been using with a different pi running an external sound card, so I went to change the jack settings and there was no pisound, only the alsa bcm on board option.

I went ahead and flashed a fresh copy of patchbox-os, went through the wizard, still no pisound.
Then, I switch back to my modep setup, the wifi hotspot starts, I can connect my laptop to it over wifi, but I cannot access the webpage for the UI, Chrome gives me “This Site Cannot Be Reached,” firefox gives me “Unable To Connect,” and the button doesn’t work: there’s no blinking at all or sound output from my saved patches.

I went through the forums, but none of the solutions offered have worked for me.

I’ve re-seated the pisound, I’ve tried it on my pi zero w, I’ve added “dtoverlay=pisound” to config.txt, I’ve tried re-flashing the firmware with avrdude, this was the output:

avrdude: error: AVR device not responding
avrdude: initialization failed, rc=-1
Double check connections and try again, or use -F to override
this check.

avrdude done. Thank you.

Also, I’ve commented and uncommented the i2s and spi options with various reboots just in case.

This is my dmesg output on a fresh copy of Stretch after going through the pisound repo installation (The lines regarding the pisound appear to be the same when I run dmesg on my MODEP installation):

pi@raspberrypi:~ $

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I was hoping to use the pisound for a gig this weekend, but that’s looking like less of a possibility at this point. =/

Hi, thank you for trying out so many troubleshooting steps. The most likely issue seems to be some failure of the chip on Pisound that RPi communicates with for the MIDI ports.

You may still be able to get Pisound work audio-only, without MIDI, for your gig this weekend, if that works for you, by applying a small modification to the Pisound driver. Otherwise, it’d be great if you could return your board back to us, so we may investigate the board, contact support@blokas.io regarding it.

Thank you for always taking so much time out to troubleshoot; I could only try so many things because you have helped so many people documented many things in these forums. I feel like the support, service, and community far outweigh the cost of the hat itself.

I’ll try to get back to you tomorrow about the modification and my findings on functionality. Thank you!
