Midihub seems dead after failed firmware update

Hi all,

After a few years of not using Midihub, I tried integrating it in my setup again. I installed the latest editor from the site on a M3 macbook (still on Ventura) and everything seemed to be working, got a message suggesting a firmware update, and clicked to proceed.

I don’t know what happened next. I think I was unattentive and accidently pushed the button or flicked the switch while the process was running and now the Midihub won’t start up again…

So, no leds light up, the editor doesn’t detect Midihub, tried different cables (direct and through hub), tried this: “Disconnect the USB cable. Press and hold the small button on the Midihub while plugging the USB cable back in. All LEDs should light up, indicating it has booted into bootloader mode.”
Nothing makes the Midihub come to live. Did I brick the device?

All help welcome!

thanks,

Andy

No, Midihub is not easily brickable - the bootloader can’t be overwritten, so entering the bootloader with the button held down should still allow the device to recover.

What we’ve seen in a couple of other instances - the power switch itself could be the problem. Try wiggling it on and off, so it makes better contact. If you witness the LEDs powering on at least intermittently, it indicates a problem with the power switch.

Either way - if you don’t get it on again, we can repair it for you.

thanks!

a bit of wiigling did the trick. turned off the device twice, and it always needs some trying…

not really comforting. I have some basic soldering skills, but I haven’t opened the device yet. any advice?
Thanks again!
