Midi not available to 3rd party application

Hello, I’m trying to control my XR18 mixer with a spare midi controller. It is seen in modep and usable from modep but I can’t connect to it in Mixing Station.
So I figured I’d not use the aggregated mode and only list my other controller in modep to keep the other one available for other apps… That didn’t work.
Is there some truth in my assumption that modep could be reservering that USB midi device ? Could it be prevented?
Alternatively is there a way to forward a midi message to a virtual output port or even directly map it to a Mackie network message?
Thanks for your help

What output do you get if you run aconnect -lio?

client 0: ‘System’ [type=kernel]
0 'Timer ’
1 'Announce ’
Connecting To: 128:0, 129:0
client 14: ‘Midi Through’ [type=kernel]
0 ‘Midi Through Port-0’
Connecting To: 129:0[real:0]
Connected From: 129:0
client 24: ‘X18/XR18’ [type=kernel,card=2]
0 'X18/XR18 MIDI 1 ’
Connecting To: 129:0[real:0]
Connected From: 129:0
client 28: ‘TSMIDI2.0’ [type=kernel,card=3]
0 ‘TSMIDI2.0 MIDI 1’
Connecting To: 129:0[real:0]
Connected From: 129:0
client 32: ‘MPK mini 3’ [type=kernel,card=4]
0 ‘MPK mini 3 MIDI 1’
Connecting To: 129:0[real:0]
Connected From: 129:0

Does it show the USB MIDI controller you intend to use?

If it’s getting listed, it should appear in mod-ui. MODEP does not do anything special with MIDI devices.
