Real time kernel?

RPi 5 with PiSound. Booting I see:

Linux patchbox 6.12.87+rpt-rpi-2712 #1 SMP PREEMPT Debian 1:6.12.87-1+rpt1~bookworm (2026-05-12) aarch64

When I run patchbox-config/kernel configuration it says it’s a regular kernel and has an option to “install-rt Switch the current kernel to realtime one”. I select that and it appears to run successfully, then reboot but, I still have the same “regular” kernel. What’s going on?

The RT kernel is not available for Pi 5 yet

Is it available for Pi 4? And if it is, would latency be better using a Pi 4 with RT kernel than with Pi 5 with regular kernel?

It is available for Pi 4. We haven’t done the measurement.
