I just have bought a PiSound and i’m anxious yo have it with me in Spain. In the meantime, i’m just wondering what might be my best take to make it work. I’m pretty sure i will use PiPedal, working with raspberry Pi OS, since it is the most familiar to me and i have been using it with an Scarlett Interface to load my A1 and A2 presets and my IRs for a long time now and i know for sure theyre are compatible.
But, i’m curious about Patchbox, since it seems it is the software made for, and i can load a lot of LV2 plugins, but i haven’t find any update since 2024, which seems a little bit old to me. Is there any image more up to date? or Patchbox is worth? my main use is to use it as i use with my Scarlett interface but way more comfortable.
I don’t think you will have benefit running pipedal on PatchboxOS. PatchboxOS is meant to be running modep with a jack audio server. Pipedal uses ALSA, it will look for your LV2 plugins in different folders than modep…
At the time I was using pipedal with a pisound, I managed to get the button working which can be achieved without using Patchbox os. It allowed me to use pipedal headless, jumping between presets with different number of clics etc.
So, if i understand, Patchbox is the OS and MODEP is the equivalent to PiPedal?
Anyways, i’m interested with the button as a way to jump between presets. I want to load my NAMs and IRs using Pisound and use my Tonex One to load the stomp. I know i can load everything with PiSound, but i really want to separate the sound. Later i can integrate everything. It is not static, just trying and searching.
We plan to get Patchbox OS updated. In the mean time, the 2024-04-04 build is still very usable, but it’s based on an older Debian release called bookworm. trixie is the latest one, in use by latest Raspberry Pi OS images.
You may encounter some more recent software builds that depend on something available only in trixie. Like getting dependency errors when installing or failing to build from source completely. In that case, it makes sense to use trixie Raspberry Pi OS images, and add our APT server, to have access to Blokas specific packages, such as pisound and modep:
Thanks for answering. My take will be install RaspiOS lite (trixie build) and use it with MODEP or PiPedal. I don’t know. I’m reallly familiar with PiPedal, so it might be my first approach.
I have do a lot of research since i bought the PiSound in the very moment it was available, i’m really exciting, and i’m adapting my setup to use PiSound as my main Amp/Cabinet sim, since I really love the NAM A2 Amalgam Audio Captures. So, i already have my buffer (i’m really in the very firsts steps so i don’t have any other buffered pedal) and then I was thinking about MODEP or PiPedal. In the begining i thought MODEP and Patchbox were the same. So, now i know there are not, i can give it a try along, and decide. Since i can put the PPA. My only main issue is the button. I don’t know if u can remap with PiPedal.
