RME Fireface Support?

Hello,

While waiting for my Pisound to arrive, I tried connecting my RME Fireface UC to the Patchbox OS flashed in a RPi 4. My first impression is that it doesn’t recognize it, as aplay -l does show it there. lsusb does show that something was connected, though without any description:

patch@patchbox:~ $ lsusb
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 2a39:3fce
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 2109:3431 VIA Labs, Inc. Hub
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

Do you know if the RME is supported at all?

Thanks in advance,
/edwillys

You may check the dmesg log to see whether it produces any useful information regarding the device.

This device may be using proprietary USB communication which requires a special driver. Try searching the internet for information on using it with Linux. Currently this image is on ‘4.19’ branch of kernel, I see there’s seem to be a plan to add support in 5.1 version of the kernel: https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=RME-Fireface-UCX-Linux

We are following the kernel that is maintained by the Raspberry Pi Foundation, so it’d be up to them to eventually adopt new version of the kernel.
