Create a midi message similar to a Hold/Latch button

I have a technical question, maybe a bit complex, to try to understand if the Blokes Midihub is what I need to solve a problem I have with my setup. I hope maybe someone here could help me.

This is the thing: I need to replicate with a midi button the same behaviour that my Moog Messenger does with its “Hold” button. I have it connected to my Prophet 6 Desktop synth, as its keyboard controller.

The hold button in the Messenger is different from other synths, because when you press it, it creates the expected sustain when I press a chord, but when I change the chord, the previous notes disappear (and that is what I want).

With many other synths, including my own Prophet, when I press the hold button, it creates sustain in the chords I play, but it keeps adding every new note until the voices are over, and if I change chords, there are obvious harmonic problems with all notes sounding at once.

So, I need a hardware system that I can program to behave like the hold button of my Moog, that is, as a sustain but that sends midi note off to the keys when new keys are pressed.

Is Blokes Midihub capable of this, if I connect a midi controller with a button to it? Can it take the message of the button and convert it into the midi message I need and send it to my Prophet?

I hope I explained myself well. Let me know if you can help me. Many thanks.

Pedro.

I think a Sustain pipe in Chord mode ought to do the trick, and you may MIDI map the Pedal On param to enable it and disable it.

Ok, it sounds like that can make the trick, I will try. Thanks.

Hi bruma!
This is the Mode option of the Sustain pipe. Chord seems perfect for you.

All : Sustain all notes.
Chord : Add sustained notes while at least one note is held down, once all keys are up and a new note is pressed, old notes will be turned off and newly pressed ones will be sustained.
Sostenuto : The notes that were playing at the time the Pedal was pushed will be held, while new notes will play as normal.

Thanks fmur! It definitely looks that that is the solution, I’ve just ordered a midihub  Thanks!
