I think AI will help integrating Sysex by the users themselves. I use AI alot to write Sysex based tools for my hardware and AI can help alot for complex setups. Just my 5 cent. Cheers
I actually attribute AI for my deep use of midihub - I needed a lot of hand holding to get over the hump, but now I’m flying. Based on that personal experience I signed up for the beta.
I’ve used LLMs for plenty of MIDI related things. I even created a MIDI sysex parser that could possibly be used with MIDI Hub after researching the documented SYSEX handshakes and tested it at the Vintage Synth Museum in December but Blokas isn’t interested in making MIDI hub open source. They haven’t added the infrastructure or listened to their users requests so its a bit of a slap in the face.
I guess it’s hard to resist the LLM hype, but it feels so misplaced. If for whatever reason you believe the current configuration interface is a bit too cryptic or challenging for some users, then consider hire an experienced interface designer and rethink the documentation and onboarding? Other than that I find it difficult to imagine a real-life use case for MCP integration, frankly.
And yes, thinking about the time spent implementing this as opposed to start add sysex support is a bit disappointing
Personally, I love the Midihub, I use it almost everyday, nothing comes close to it but several things could be improved/added, so it’s weird to read an announcement like this one…
I’d love to see this implemented smoothly. Would also be a great learning tool and potentially yield far more complex generative setups. Reckon I’d love this, myself.
