Hey, I was able to reproduce this issue, however, I didn’t yet find a workaround. I can’t see any error getting logged by Audacity on this situation, so it’s not making this easy. 
I’ve also tried building version 2.2.2 of Audacity from source, but it still has the same issue. Another thing I plan to try to is to configure a build with JACK backend enabled - software using JACK usually does better than using ALSA directly. I’ll let you know how it goes, getting this right takes a while…
