PODXT Live to OCTATRACK MK2

Hey there, the idea is send midi message to octatrack for pickup machine; record, play/stop, erase. which I believe they are equal to;

For pickup;
C#4 (61) INAB rec(Record)
D4 (62) INCD rec (Play/Stop)
D#4 (63) SRC3 rec (Erase)

I made simple chain that take PODXT Live (MIDI Ch 1) Bank23A midi input which results in ch1 Scale with CC7 in midihub however when I press same Bank23A button it doesn’t worked then I changed the mode into Toggle and it can send the message to desired midi out

CH Remap (podxt midi CH1 > CH3) for Octatrack Track3(Which is my PickupMachine Midi CH:3)

Transform for;
CC replace into Note On
Which we talked earlier 61 on octatrack standard midi appendix settings is equal to C#4 (61) INAB rec(Record)
Work with CC number 7 to 7

It worked. When I press my PodXT Live on Bank23a, it will start recording on Octatrack Track3 Pickupmachine (C#4 (61) INAB rec(Record)).

Here is the Problem part:

Sadly when I press any other bank23b or bank25a, etc it always result in same CC7(0-127) which will always triggers initially record.

Therefor I can’t able to map the next parts (D4 (62) INCD rec (Play/Stop)
D#4 (63) SRC3 rec (Erase))
due to when I press any of the PODXT Live bank slots it will always trigger CC7 which result in first mapping that I’ve created (C#4 (61) INAB rec(Record))

Is there any solution for this kind of problem?

Also I can’t able to MIDI Monitor greatly, it’s not showing properly the PODXT Live midi messages but Midihub hardware is blinking when I press any of the buttons of it, and I can see on the Octatrack Midi In blinks too, so there is message going around but I can’t diagnose which message is coming in properly so wanted to ask you guys,

Maybe MIDI PODXT LIVE Ch1 Toggle CC 7 [0 <>127] which might contain some value somewhere so I can use that to differentiate on pipeline then I can use that 3 mapping that I want.

Hi @Burak_AYDOGAN, welcome to Midihub forums!

Let’s look at the MIDI Monitor first.

Once you have the MIDI Monitor pane showing, here are two steps to check

First, select a pipe to monitor:

In this example, we use MIDI Monitor to check what the Rescale pipe is doing❖

You should start with the input pipe for PODXT Live.

Next, check the MIDI Monitor Settings Button:

If, say Incoming Filters... is checked…

…take a look at what is being filtered out of the Monitor view:

Here it’s Control Change and Clock.
That doesn’t mean those messages aren’t getting through; they’re just not being shown.

This tutorial section takes a slightly closer look.

Hopefully, when MIDI Monitor is showing your incoming messages, you’ll be able to see what PODXT Live is sending when it sends a Bank Change and you can post a screenshot:
❖ notice in the shot above, it shows

  • which pipe is selected
  • what its properties are and
  • what the Monitor is showing

It might also be useful to save your preset to file and then upload it in a post

btw, the properties for the Input pipe shown suggest your mapping is toggling its Source (probably between MIDI A {the first in the list} and Virtual H {the last}).
Is that what you want?

When the source is Virtual H it’s probably not going to show anything in the Monitor! Hmm…

Hey resonotter,

Thanks for your kind reply!

I filtered out everything, which is why I couldn’t see any MIDI information. After clearing it out, I could see the program change messages from Podxt Live, then transformed them into note-it MIDI messages for Octatrack. It worked as expected.

These are the transform values that I put in for note-in for INAB rec(C#4:61) on Octatrack
Channel to 3; Octatrack T3 pickupmachine

At some point, my program change messages were changing the source
MIDI/Virtual A/B/C/D ports - I’ll figure that out later

Good, so the issue was MIDI Monitor Filters?

That’s because you had the Input pipe Source mapped to PODXT Ch1 CC7.
Click the little U button to Undo (delete) the mapping, then just select the MIDI port you want from the dropdown

Yes, you are absolutely correct.

Since I couldn’t get the midi monitor worked due to filters, I thought I had to map it from there to send some message. That caused the source changes to virtual a/b/c/d ports when I’m trying to pressing podxt ch1 cc7 bank (actually it’s programchange 85 ~ thanks to midi monitor)
