I have a Pisound 1.0 installed on a RPi 3b.
I’m thinking of upgrading my RPi and better to ask before buying anything.
Does it work well with RPi 4? and with RPi 5?
Is there any changelog for Pisound versions?
Thanks.

@javierdelfaro welcome back!
If you’re going to upgrade I would recommend considering the new PiSound 1.2 available in the store and a Raspberry Pi 5 with the most memory you can get.
If you stick with the PiSound you have and go for the Pi5 then you’ll have to consider using the active cooler which won’t work well with the original PiSound as the cooler gets in the way of PiSound. There’s another thread on here where someone created a case for the Pi5 and original PiSound which I’ve done myself and it works well.
Thanks for your quick reply.
I may have to stick with the original Pisound for now.
Would a RPi 4 make it easier or does it face the same challenge?
I could try building a custom case as you mention. Will check that other thread more into detail.
The Pi4 and PiSound would work together just fine. You could also get the official case from the Blokas store, that’s the combination I used before I upgraded to the Pi5 with active cooler.
Although it’s not required, I would recommend the Pimorini fan shim for the Pi4. Definitely helps to keep it cool.
There’s an important difference between v1.0 and v1.1 Pisounds that can affect your experience with Raspberry Pi 4 (and most likely Pi 5 as well) - due to a power supply design change between Pi 3 and Pi 4, sometimes restarting the OS could hang. We had to make a change on Pisound side to work around the issue, but there’s a software fix available, all the details are in this thread:
And the general specifications section of the documentation:
As for temperature - Pi 4 can be used fairly successfully without any heatsink or fan, Pi 5 is better used with their Active Cooler fan & heatsink, otherwise, Pi 5 will not run at its full speed.
