Pisound Mic Pre setup

Hey everyone!

Ive got a little setup query…
For some time ive been looking for a mic pre to run into my Pisound to give me some proper options with microphones, such as allowing phantom power mics etc.
Ive just scored a sweet deal on an ART USB dual Mic Pre:

Absolute win - two mic ins to 1/4" outs - ideal. Can be powered from USB too - even better for keeping the pedalboard neat. This particular pre can also be used as an audio interface via that USB.

The question is - has anyone had experience with this Pre and a Pisound before?
Im after advice on whether im best using the mic pres into the pisound, or whether latency-wise I’m better off using the mic pre as an interface straight into the Pi and not using the Pisound. Using the pisound is useful as it keeps the mic pre’s usb out free for sending raw mics to a secondary recording source, for example.

Cheers!

If the mic pre is USB class compliant, then technically it should work with the Pi. However I’ve read some threads where people had issues running devices advertised as being plaza compliant as well.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe the PiSound uses I2S for communication with the Pi, which is faster than USB. So you should have lower latency using the PiSound. Personally I run a Behringer UMC202HD and the latency is not at all an issue for me.

Thanks for your reply!
Yeah the i2s interface is much faster than using the usb interface I believe.
I think Im going to try and just use the ART for its mic Pre and phantom power, and run its outputs into the Pisound. It’ll open the door for using condener mics with my Trombone while maintaining low latency.
Ah i like those Behringers - i have a 404 not in use at the moment, maybe fun to pair with a Pi for this too. Could use it as a submix for my brass section.
