Optimizing Patchbox for SSH?

Is there any way to optimize the patchbox OS for a pi zero. A lot of the VSTs hog all the CPU power in one go. Ideally I shouldn’t be running the OS on a zero. I get that. But is there any way?

The Raspbian OS lite version is only ~400 mb whereas the patchbox img without modep is ~1gb. Could there be services that could be excluded when running modep only and with SSH. I have disabled the GUI env. But anything else that could be disabled for a smoother run?

The size of the OS image is not directly related to the performance. You really should just switch to a more powerful Pi version for audio effect duties. I’d recommend Pi 3 or higher.
