Audio card hotplug possible?

Hi,
I am trying to get my Patchbox to gracefully handle switching the audio card on and off, basically. I have a headless RPi with patchboxOS and my soundcard is also my mixer. I would like to be able to switch on and off the sound card and keep the RPi on always.
After switching the audio card off and on again, it will not reconnect. It reports all relevant services as running. if I try “sudo systemctl restart jack”/“sudo systemctl stop jack” it hangs.

If I “sudo kill -9” the jackd process, I can restart jack, modep-mod-hot and modep-mod-ui and get it up again.

Is this doable? It is kind of hard to see what is happening in the logs.
