Is it possible to expand the ports using another midi interface , the esi m8u for example?

Yes if there’s midi in connection to the device you can plug it into an output on the midihub.
I use a Kenton thru-device I think. You can do some advanced routing using pipes and fx thru different midi channels so it doesn’t limit you that you use only one output from the midihub and a splitter.
